ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING
SUZHOU
Suzhou is located in the center of the Yangtze Delta, in the
south of Jiangsu Province, with Shanghai to the east, Zhejiang
Province to the south, Wuxi City to the west and the Yangtze
River to the north. Since 42% area of the city is covered by
water, including a vast number of ponds and streams, Suzhou
is praised as the 'Oriental Venice'. Taihu Lake, four fifths
of which is in the territory of Suzhou, is one of the four largest
fresh lakes in China, with East Hill, West Hill and other scenic
spots in its vicinity. The city is cut by the Beijing-Hangzhou
Grand Canal from north to south. Together with its mild climate,
making it an available destination all year round, fertile landscape
and abundance of produce, it is no wonder that Suzhou is called
'paradise on earth'.
As one of the famous tourist cities in China, Suzhou has made
a great improvement to its basic facilities and tourist functions.
Suzhou is accessible by plane, train and bus. Star-rated hotels
with good services and reasonable guesthouses and hostels provide
a range of lodging. Of course, tasting local delicacies should
not be forgotten in your journey. Authentic Suzhou cuisines
and snacks can be found in Guan Qian Street, where delicious
food and friendly service are memorable. When night falls, Suzhou
City is quiet and peaceful. You can enjoy it while sipping a
cup of tea in any teahouse.
THE BUND
The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront
and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years.
It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting
point of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, to the East
Jinling Road and winds a 1500 meters (less than one mile) length.
Walking along the Bund, which is at the west shore of the Huangpu
River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite
side and also the Jin Mao Tower. Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai
Attractions, the Bund is a really beautiful and special place
which is worth visiting. The newly-built Flood Control Bank
takes the function of preventing the oversize flood; the square
with the statue of Marshal Chen Yi is an open air podium which
gives new views of the Shanghai Plaza Culture; the Cenotaph
which stands on the man-made island is a monument of people's
heroes; the riverside greenbelt, the Electronic Waterfall Bell,
and the Great Mural Carving are all representatives of the Bund.
The most famous and attractive sight
which is at the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings
of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque,
Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. The Bund was the
centre of Shanghai's politics, economy and culture hundreds
of years ago, consulates of most countries and many banks, businesses
and newspaper offices were settled there, and that's why we
have these art-like buildings. Although they were not designed
by the same person or built in the same period, the architectural
pattern is similar.
Huangpu River joins 29 kilometers (18 miles) north of downtown
Shanghai and divides Shanghai into two parts, east and west.
Cruises are available everyday, including the shorter cruises
(navigating the main waterfront area between the Yangpu Bridge
and the Nanpu Bridge) and the complete cruises (meandering eastward
along the golden waterway, over a distance of 60 kilometers
or 37 miles). Whether it is in the daytime or at night, the
views along the river are the same beautiful. The great modern
skyscrapers and the characteristic buildings in different architectural
styles are the best records of the development of the city and
the Huangpu River, the birthplace of Shanghai, is the faithful
eyewitness.
Shanghai Museum
Located in the center of Shanghai in People's Square, Shanghai
Museum is a large museum of ancient Chinese art. The museum
style and presentation surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating
ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design of the round
dome and the square base symbolizes the ancient idea of a round
heaven and a square land.
The museum is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition
halls. The eleven Galleries cover most of the major categories
of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings,
Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and
Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
As a Chinese saying goes, it is better to see for oneself than
to hear many times. Shanghai Museum welcomes visitors to see
and enjoy Chinese culture.
Hangzhou
Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province and its political,
economic and cultural center. With its famous natural beauty
and cultural heritages, Hangzhou is one of China's most important
tourist venues.
One of the most important parts of traveling is tasting the
local delicacies. Hangzhou dishes are noted for their elaborate
preparation, sophisticated cooking and refreshing taste. Many
local specialties will be sure to make your trip a cultural
experience. We recommend that you try Beggar's Chicken (a chicken
baked in clay), West Lake Fish in Sweet Sour Source (vinegar
coated fish fresh caught from the lake), Dongpo Pork (braised
pork) and Fried Shrimps with Longjing Tea, etc.
The shopping environment in Hangzhou
is exciting and convenient. Travelers and tourists like to go
to Qing He Fang Street. It is one of the most famous and historic
streets in the city and reflects many of the features of the
Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Shoppers will admire the
antique buildings while purchasing items from a wide range of
local goods such as silks, tea or maybe a silk parasol, brocade
or a beautiful Hangzhou fan. These are just some of the items
to be found but there are many more.
At night Hangzhou has much to offer and teahouses and various
kinds of pubs are both plentiful and popular. Choosing one overlooking
the West Lake for a pleasant chat over a cup of tea is sure
to make you feel totally relaxed and refreshed. A number of
national museums can be found in Hangzhou and are representative
of Chinese culture. Fine examples are the National Silk Museum
and Tea Museum. Along with the other museums in Hangzhou, they
provide a fascinating insight into the history of Chinese traditional
products.

Museum of Science and Technology
Promoting the theme of "Nature, Man and Science and Technology,"
the museum serves as a center for exhibition, education, scientific
study and exchange, exhibits collection and production, and
leisure and tourism. In 2001, it also served as the main venue
for the APEC leaders' meeting.
Covering a total construction area of 68,000 square meters and
total floor space of 96,500 square meters, the 1,755-billion-yuan
museum has seven exhibition areas for the Earth's Crust, Life,
Light of Wisdom, Audio-Video Paradise, Cradle of Designers,
Children's Garden, and Natural Science. It also has a large
3-D screen cinema, a 360 degree circular screen cinema and a
4-D screen cinema. In addition, there are souvenir shops, multifunction
halls, bank services and dining halls. It was completed and
open to the public by the end of 2001, with a capacity of receiving
3 million visitors.
Yu Yuan Garden
Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Anren
Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government
officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu
in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was
specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy
a tranquil and happy time in their old age.
In the 400 years of its existence, Yuyuan Garden had undergone
many changes. During the late Ming Dynasty, it became very dilapidated
with the decline of Pan's family. In 1760, some rich merchants
bought Yuyuan Garden and spent more than 20 years reconstructing
the buildings. During the Opium War of the 19th century, Yuyuan
Garden was severely damaged. The Yuyuan Garden you see today
is the result of a five year restoration project which began
in 1956. The garden was open to the public in September, 1961.
Yuyuan Garden occupies an area of 20,000 square meters (about
five acres). However, the small size is not a representative
of the attractions of the garden. The pavilions, halls, rockeries,
ponds and cloisters all have unique characteristics. There are
six main scenic areas in the garden: Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber,
Dianchun Hall, Huijing Hall, Yuhua Hall and the Inner Garden.
Each area features several scenic spots within its borders.
Shanghai Zoo
After half a century of development the Shanghai Zoo has become
one of the best ecological gardens in Shanghai. The zoo houses
and exhibits more than 6,000 animals, among which are 600 rare
animals that include the giant panda, golden-haired monkey,
and the South China tiger. All of these animals are indigenous
to China. Animals from other parts of the world include, the
chimpanzee, giraffe, polar bear and kangaroo. The zoo is constantly
developing and improving the animal enclosures in order to provide
better environments for the animals and a pleasurable experience
for visitors.
The original golf course design has been basically preserved.
There are a total of 100,000 trees with nearly 600 species planted
in the zoo. The green areas or lawns cover and area of 100,000
square meters. The zoo endeavors to create an ecologically friendly
environment for the animals. The Swan Lake with its natural
reed clumps and trees, provides shade for pelicans, wild geese
and other birds, is a perfect example of this.
The Shanghai Zoo provides areas for amusement and leisure, opportunities
for visitors to increase their knowledge of the various animals
and combines this with scientific and technical research to
help people better understand and protect animals. Since the
zoo was established it has been host to over 150,000,000 visitors.
The aim of the Shanghai Zoo is to have visitors leave with a
better understanding of and appreciation for the animals and
their environments.
WUXI
Wuxi, also named “Liangxi”, is a famous city with a long history
in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is 128km away
from Shanghai with Suzhou in between and 183km away from Nanjing
with Changzhou in between. With the Taihu lake in the south
and the south and the Yangtze River in the north, it borders
Zhejiang Province and has bank of 35km along the Yangtze.

of the Lake scatter famous parks such as Turtle-head Peninsula

politics, culture and international exchanges and a modem metropolis
full of vitality. Annual rainfall averages nearly 700 millimeters,
most of it comes in July and August. Winter is dry and has little
snow. The frost -free period is 185 days. The best time to visit
Beijing is May, September and October, when people enjoy bright
sunny day. In August, 2008 the 29th Olympic Games will be held

There are hundreds of tourist scenic
spots in Beijing. But only some of them are walkable. Some of
the sites are far from the city center. Among the numerous scenic
spots, there are 5 major must-see spots in Beijing: Forbidden
City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tomb and Great Wall.
Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven are walkable if you stay

free in Beijing, we suggest you visit Forbidden City, Tiananmen
Square and Badaling Great Wall - the highlight of Beijing.
